WOODEN HALLS
HOW TO BUILD WOODEN HALLS
Wood is a versatile material, which is a useful property in constructions with large openings such as production halls, industrial halls or event halls. We do not use lamellar beams, but wooden trusses with large openings, such as hall kits or trusses for industrial frames. As a consequence, using industrial prefabrication systems, we are able to use wood efficiently in complex structures with large openings.

TRUSSES FOR WOODEN HALLS
Wooden trusses for halls offer both economical and technical advantages compared to metal structures. The cost is about 20-30% lower. Halls made of wooden trusses can have openings of up to 30m depending on the type of project, the loads, and the environment the hall is located. Additional benefits are short production and assembly times, and a long life span.
DESIGN OF A WOODEN HALL
The design of a wooden hall is a complex process that takes into consideration the hall's project specifications, the loads the hall has to withstand (e.g., wind, snow and earthquakes), and the location of the hall. In addition to the structure of the building itself, interior equipment such as overhead cranes of various weights and factors such as building use (production, storage, animal husbandry) and fire protection scenarios are taken into account.
The wood design standard is EUROCODE 5 and we use RoofCon TrussCon and Pamir software to design and model halls with large openings and lattice beams.
PRODUCTION OF A WOODEN HALL
For the structures, softwood, fir, spruce, and pine of resistance class C24 section 45/60/80mm are used. The wood is dried before being put into operation (maximum humidity of 17%) and then cut according to the design, treated and prepared for the production process. The wood is treated with anti-fungal, antiseptic, fireproofing and moisture protection solutions. This treatment is adapted to the use of the hall. For example, a zoo will have a treatment with a high protection against acid.
Wooden trusses are made by hydraulic pressing at 40 tons of force, using MiTek multi-nail connectors. The multi-nail connectors are designed to withstand the loads required at each joint on the truss. The connectors are positioned on the unattached wooden elements and pressed. This process is repeated on the other side of the truss, resulting in a prefabricated and resistant structural element.
CONSTRUCTION OF A WOODEN HALL
The construction of a wooden hall takes place in two stages: production and assembly. The wooden trusses and lattice beams are produced at the factory and put on 12m long trucks. Before assembly, the foundation and a spot for the crane need to be ready. To make the transport more efficient, the construction site needs to be accessible for a 12m long truck.
The type of mounting varies depending on the structural configuration. For example, at a project in Brezoi, the vertical beams were lifted and fixed with lattices, the 13m long roof trusses were lifted and fixed on top of these beams, and the roof was closed with decking. For other projects, using a wooden hall kit, the vertical beams and roof trusses are fixed in position together on the ground, thereby increasing the mounting speed.

WHAT IS THE INVESTMENT COST OF A WOODEN HALL?
In our experience, a wooden hall is more affordable than one made of conventional materials such as metal or masonry, with a price difference of up to 30%. However, the investment cost is highly dependent on the specifics of the project. Therefore, the most realistic cost estimation is established after we analyze a sketch or project.
